Roman And Greek Facts

Roman Facts:

1.According to legend, Rome was founded by Romulus. The legend says that Romulus and his twin brother Remus, were sons of the god Mars. They were abandoned at the river Tiber and left to fend for themselves at the age of 7 months. A she-wolf found them and fed them. the boys were then found by a shepherd who bought them up. They grew up to be very strong and clever. Romulus and Remus then decided to build a city where the shepherd found them. The brothers quarrelled over where the city should be. But Remus was killed by Romulus. Romulus then named the city Rome, after his name.

2.The Romans stayed in Britian from 43AD to 410AD.

3.The Romans gave us Language (the language we have have today originated from Latin), the Calender (it is based of the movement of the Earth around the sun, and the idea was introduced by Julius Ceasar) and law (the way we discover who has been accused of breaking the law came from the Romans).

Greek Facts:

  1. After over three thousand years, we still use the Greek ideas in Math, Science and art. Our Alphabet is also from the Greeks.
  2. The Greek ideas spread due to Alexander, the young king of Macedon. He led his army to take over Greece, Persia Egypt and parts of India. He took Greek ideas with him.
  3. In Athens, citizens gathered on a dusty hill and decided the city’s laws and who should rule.
