This is a story about a king and everything he touched would turn gold. Midas was a king with a lot of money and he ruled the country of Phrygia, in Asia minor. He had everything he could ever want, he was rich but Midas thought that his greatest happiness was provided by gold. One day, Dionyssus, the god of wine and revelry, passed through Midas’s kingdom. He was very tired though so he took a nap in the rose garden. Then a few hours later king Midas found him and he invited him into his palace. Dionyssus was very happy that he now had somewhere to stay so he gave Midas a wish. Midas instantly knew what he wanted and wished that everything he touched would turn gold. Dionyssus promised that the next morning everything that he touched would turn gold.
That next morning Midas woke up eager to touch something; So he slowly reached out his arm to touch his bed and it instantly turned gold. He then started to touch everything and he was so happy: but after a while he got a bit hungry so he got a grape but it turned gold then he got some water and it did the same thing. He then realized that he didn’t like this and his daughter came in and he hugged her and then she turned gold. Midas started to cry and he asked Dionyssus how to get rid of it. So he said “Go to the river and wash your hands off” so he quickly ran there and he could see all of the gold coming off. Once it had all gone everything went back to normal and from that day he was a good man.
