Athens and Spartens

Athens and Spartans were probably the most well known in Greece yet they were so different. In Sparta, reading and writing was was not important. Athenian boys, learned to be good fighters instead. Athenian boys went to ‘wrestling school’ each day, to learn other sports, as well as wrestling. They had to be fit because they had to fight in the army (similar to Sparta). When boys were at school, girls would stay home: learning how to do the house work until they were married. Boys starts school at the age of seven and and then left at fourteen. At first both Athens and Spartans were ruled by kings. Later they were enemies; both sides great and powerful. The destruction of Athens’ fleet at Aegospotami ended the war: Athens surrendered in the following year.
